I know there are many parents out there feeling the need to protect their children after last week's events in Newtown. I myself felt sadness and horror at what had happened. I may have thought "if that were one of my kids I would be crushed"...but never once did I fear about sending my kids back to school.
Nor do I let myself worry, as my husband is concerned about the people (mostly one particular person) who are harming his career. -- No questions please -- But my husband has always been concerned that he be a wonderful provider for our family. And with the stress, he is in fear of the "what if's".
I am not afraid. I believe in an awesome God and I know that he will always protect me. People of the world make bad choices. God is not to blame for all of the Earth's tragedies. He gave us that freedom whether we should choose to accept Him or not. And regardless of what I want, He has a plan. Many times throughout the Bible we are told to "Fear not" "Fear no evil" "Fear no one but Me" etc.
He will take care of me. I am not afraid. Nor will I let the evil-doers of the world scare me. What about you? Are you going to let these STRANGERS like the kid from Newtown, the Columbine shooters, the 9-11 maniacs rule YOUR life? They are dead anyways. Do not let them have any control over you. By all means feel sorrow for the tragedies that occur. Do your part to help people recover. But live your own life. Live a life WITH the people you have been blessed with. And to prevent further tragedies, "Train up a child in the way he should go." Proverbs 22:6. Teach your own children to fear God and live a trustworthy and honorable life.

One more thing to remember: these radicals are only wanting attention, even if it has to be post-mortem. Don't give it to them. Instead do something positive and memorable (even if it is memorable to only ONE person) to lift the community back up after such a devastation. Those positive actions are the things people take note of and think, "Wow, I want to be more like her/him!"
